Five years ago it was merely a idea on paper and since it has been in the process of what it has become now. The Grand Opening of Paterson's Newest Theater, The Fabien 8 as it's called, was on Friday, February 19, 2010. The theater is located on the upper level of the new Center City Paterson mall at 301 Main Street in downtown Paterson. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010 Elected and Appointed Officials and thier families were allowed a "sneak peek" VIP screening access for it's first 2 movies "Spanglish" and "Love Story" The Fabian 8 was devrived from the original Fabien Theater by Jacob Fabian in 1925. The number 8 for the 8 theater rooms it holds. They also will have stadium seating, two 3-D theater rooms and FREE Indoor Parking. Paterson has not shown a movie since 1994 and the 8 rooms plan to accomadate all 53 ethic groups in the city. As you drive up to the Center City Mall in Downtown, Paterson, go through the underground garage and go to the Elevator and Press Level U, you can't help but get chills of how the original Fabien was. It has been legendary to the ciy of Paterson. Before the film "Love Story" was shown, you were greated by General Manager John Halecky, Mayor Jose "Joey" Torres, First Ward Councilman Anthony Davis and Fifth Ward Councilman Julio Tavarez. Mayor Jose "Joey" Torres expressed his gratitude to The Council Members, and countless individuals that saw the vision that Paterson had no reason why they couldn't have thier own movie theater. He also stated as well as the councilmen that it's our duties to support the Theater, and keep up its cleanliness. This is for us, we deserve this in our city. Friday’s grand opening slate of first-run features includes “Valentine’s Day” “Shutter Island” “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Dear John” “The Wolfman” “Avatar” “Edge of Darkness” and “Book of Eli”.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7.50 for children and seniors. Matinee shows starting before 6 PM are $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children and seniors. A standard $3 surcharge is applied to tickets purchased for digital 3D movies.
